Volvo Revs Up Champions Tournament
The Volvo Golf Champions, European Tour’s elite ‘Tournament of Champions’, has announced a bumper 50% increase in the prize fund to USD 4 million.
The exclusive, limited-field event is made up of 2013 European Tour winners and Tour Members with more than ten victories, who will now be smacking their lips at the chance to bag a vault load of cash and world ranking/Ryder Cup points at the start of the season.
The winner will receive a cheque for USD 700,000 with every last player picking up a cash prize. As a result the Volvo Golf Champions prize fund is one of the top few on the European Tour, excluding WGC events and Majors.
Louis Oosthuizen, the defending champions (gutted) seems happy to be having another crack at the pot.
“It is fantastic for South Africa to get to host the European Tour’s ‘Tournament of Champions’ again, an impressive boost to the prize fund and I am delighted to be defending my title at the Durban Country Club. I love the course and enjoy the advantage of playing in front of my home crowd. I look forward to opening my season there very much.”
As if doubling the prize fund wasn’t enough, President of Volvo Event Management, Per Ericsson, also said “we will soon be revealing some amazing Hole-in-One prizes which will continue our innovative approach from last year.”
