Single-Sex Golf Clubs ‘Stupid’ Blasts Charley Hull

English prospect Charley Hull says it is time to end single-sex golf club membership policies, citing them as “stupid” and “silly.”

The men-only Royal and Ancient Golf Club is based on the Old Course at St Andrews, where the Women’s British Open takes place between 1-4 August.

”It is time to change,” said the 17-year-old. “We’re all people and no one is better than anyone else.”

In addition to the Royal and Ancient at St Andrews, Royal Trool on Scotland’s west coast, Royal St George’s in Kent and Muirfield, which hosted the 142nd Open Championship last week, are also men only.

The Royal and Ancient clubhouse is placed next to the first tee of the Old Course at St Andrews, where the 2013 Women’s British Open will commence. Hull also added: “You do hear of men’s clubs that have the rule (single-sex), but there are ladies clubs too in England that have that rule. I personally think it’s silly, absolutely stupid.”

Charley Hull will be partaking in the Women’s British Open after making an impressive impact in her first season on the Ladies European Tour.
