Shevchenko To Play Challenge Tour In Ukraine

Andriy Shevchenko is set to play on the Challenge Tour in Ukraine.

The former Chelsea striker will make his Challenge Tour debut on Thursday in the Kharkov Superior Cup in Ukraine.

The 36-year-old, who retired from playing football after Euro 2012, has recently swapped one ball for another and turned his hand to golf.

"This is the first big event for me and of course it is the first major professional tournament here in Ukraine," he said.

Another player, this time better known for their skills on a tennis court rather than a golf course, is former tennis world number one Yevgeny Kafelnikov, 39.

Shevchenko, who also played for Dynamo Kiev and AC Milan during his coveted football career, will be facing off against some of the best young talents. Former Ryder Cup player Oliver Wilson and three-time European Tour winner Nick Dougherty also feature.

"I have played with many good players in Pro-Ams but it's very different out here," Shevchenko added.

"I'm looking forward to it and hope I play well but it's my first event so I just want to have a good time and enjoy the week."
