Poyet Swinging For The Top
Newly-appointed Sunderland manager, Gus Poyet, got the inside track on the club after teeing up with former manager Martin O’Neill at a League Managers golf day.
The ambitious Uruguayan who guided Brighton and Hove Albion to a play-off semi-final last season, revealed that he had a hit-list of eight clubs for the next step in his managerial career, before Ellis Short offered him a two-year contract to replace the controversial Paolo Di Canio, who was sacked after a players revolt.
“It was a coincidence that I played in a League Managers Association golf day at The Grove in the summer with Martin O’Neill,” said Poyet.
“We were in the same buggy and I asked him 150 questions about Sunderland. Martin is a very honest person. I knew him from football but I didn’t know him personally. He’s an absolutely lovely person. “He spoke highly about the chairman, the fans, the players here. I asked him a few more questions that I can’t reveal."
We’re wondering if any of them were tactical and about what formation would suit the squad best? A Fore-Fore-Two perhaps?
