Manchester City Manager Sent to Bench by Golf Club
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has been benched by Hale Golf Club after being placed on the waiting list to play on their famous greens.
Pellegrini is said to be an avid golfer and scouted local golf courses the moment he arrived in Manchester. He and his wife – also an avid golfer – had their hearts set on joining the nine-hole course, but will now have to wait on the touchline.
The Chilean has enjoyed rounds at the club already as a guest and was expected to be offered membership right away due to his celebrity in football – and the fact that the £1,245 joining fee and £925 will hardly dent his bank account too much.
However the 60-year-old will have to join a long waiting list like all the other hopefuls before being considered for membership. His etiquette will be under the spotlight too after he dismissed the post-match handshake with Jose Mourinho following his team’s 2-1 defeat at Chelsea on Sunday.
Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry, currently on loan at Everton, is said to be coming to the rescue of Mobberley in Cheshire, another upmarket golf club that is struggling to fund a £2.5 million refurbishment.
