LPGA Tour Shakes Up Season with $1million Prize

This year the LPGA Tour is doing something different by offering $1million to the winner of the new “Race to the CME Globe.”

The points system will not apparently be hard to figure out. Instead of a four-tournament playoff system the PGA currently employs, the women players will earn points for 31 events going into the CME Group Tour Championship on November 20-23 in Naples, Florida.

The points will be reset for the final event to give an advantage to whoever had the best year, and the winner will then receive a $1million bonus.

LPGA commissioner Mike Whan said of the new structure: “It should make for an exciting 2014. It’s the bow on the present we really wanted to get done.”

The LPGA Tour already has its strongest schedule in years, and with the addition of domestic (if you live in the USA) events in Michigan and San Francisco, as well as creating an Olympic-styled event called the International Crown, which is aimed at determining the best nation of golfers, it’s shaping up to be a great year for women’s golf.
