US Masters 2013: Darren Clarke Pulls Out
Darren Clarke has confirmed he is pulling out of this year’s US Masters event after a hamstring injury picked up playing tennis while holidaying with his children in the Bahamas.
Clarke had hoped to recover in time for Augusta but this is now not possible and the 44-year-old former Open Champion will have to watch from the sidelines.
Only last week the Northern Irishman withdrew from the Texas Open in order to undergo intensive treatment on the sustained injury but it is thought that time was not on his side and that any sports would likely cause more discomfort and place his health at even greater risk.
It is ten-years since Darren Clarke went without a top-ten finish at golf’s four biggest events, but he has since struggled for form and missed the cut at Augusta last year on his first appearance at the event since 2007.
On the injuries Clarke said, "It is with deep regret that I will not be able to play at Augusta this year," "Playing in the Masters is one of golf's greatest pleasures and I am very disappointed to be missing out," he told his official website.
"I have done absolutely everything to be at Augusta; physio, ultrasound and icing, but I cannot physically turn through shots and there is no point in going to the Masters if you are not one 100% fit. Understandably, I am absolutely gutted not to be there but I hope to be fit enough to be back in action in the Ballantine's Championship on the European Tour in a couple of weeks' time."
